Using Collocations in IELTS Writing

Collocations are group of words that can be combined together to make a meaning in a sentence.

Collocations, when used right, prevent the overuse of ambiguous words and makes sentences sound better to the native speaker’s ears.

For your IELTS test, your ability to use collocations flexibly and accurately is important, if you want to achieve a high score in your Writing test. This is because collocations is a subcomponent of Vocabulary which is one of the marking criteria in IELTS Writing Task 1 and 2.

There are different types of collocations and thousands of examples in English language. They include:
