COMPUTER DELIVERED IELTS VS PAPER BASED IELTS
In the computer delivered IELTS, the answers are typed into the computer, while in the paper based IELTS, the answers are written in an answer sheet. Between the computer delivered IELTS and the paper based IELTS, there are a few differences.
In the listening test, there is an extra 10 minutes for candidates to transfer their answers from their question sheet to their answer sheet in the paper-based test. Meanwhile, in the computer delivered test, the candidates have 2 minutes only to check their answers. This might pose a challenge for the computer delivered candidates as the time left to check their answers is limited.
For the reading test in the computer delivered IELTS, the passages and the questions are displayed on the screen in two parts that is split between the screen. Both parts can be moved separately making it easy for the candidate to view and understand. However, in the paper-based test, there will a lot of page-flipping as the questions are printed in different pages. Though, reading on a computer screen might be a little bit stramineous than reading on a paper.
Also, for the paper-based candidates, during the writing test, if they made a mistake in their sentences, words or paragraphs, they would have to cross out the mistake with either a pencil or a black pen. Whereas, the computer delivered candidates can copy, paste, delete or edit their mistakes conveniently without making their work look rough.
Computer delivered IELTS candidates can take all the tests within a day. However, the paper-based IELTS candidates usually write their listening, reading, and writing in one day, while their speaking test is written on another day.
