Model Advantage Disadvantage Question Essay on Children
In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard enough.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?
The culture of hard work has been deeply entrenched in some societies even to the minds of their young ones. This tradition is greatly encouraged because of the development of the young mind. However, such expectation could be overwhelming to the average child.
To start with, challenging kids to remain hard working could instill values of discipline in them. They can set goals in their academics and work towards achieving them without distractions. The joy of excelling in their studies can motivate them to stay focused, study their books, play less and pass their exams. This drive could also influence other aspects of their lives as they could build perseverance, determination and doggedness in completing house chores, performing well in sports and in building relationships with peers.
However, too much pressure can be placed on these lads especially when they experience failure in their quest to be successful at what they do. Experiencing setbacks when they expect progress could discourage them and create a feeling of weakness or inferiority. They may begin to doubt themselves and may slump into depression if they witness their peers achieve the success they dream of. Many kids have suffered from this when during prize-giving ceremonies in school, they are never rewarded despite the efforts they put into their exams. These kids even feel so much pressure to impress their parents that when they don’t, they look down on themselves.
In sum, it is pertinent for parents, teachers and the society to cautiously instill the tenets of hard work on young boys and girls, so they do not become unnecessarily burdened. Failure to do this can lead to undesirable consequences.
