Model Discussion and Opinion Essay on Trying New Things
Some people like to try new things, for example, places to visit and types of food. Other people prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with.
Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.
Whether to perform routine activities or to venture into novel experiences always, boils down to the interests of a person. While some are fond of the former because of the safety it provides, others love adventurous trips and new cuisines. In my opinion, the love for adventure can have too many downsides than the desire to play safe.
On the one hand, looking out for the next new location to visit can be thrilling and exciting to an individual who hates boredom. It also gives the opportunity to learn new cultures and to make new friends. Trying out unfamiliar dishes regularly can increase craving for food, induce one’s appetite and give room for experiences to share. For instance, tourists to Dubai frequently recount their experiences as relaxing and fun-filled.
On the other hand, there is a school of thought that argues that seeking novelty at all times can be superficial and extremely risky. I strongly agree with this view, as the chances of wasting funds on exotic trips and foods are high. Such experiences may not be as entertaining as the person imagined, leading to disappointment. This is due to the high level of uncertainty that lies in such activities. There is also the risk of suffering harm during such visits or while eating new meals. I would rather stick to my local delicacies than consume an intercontinental dish that may cause food poisoning. Moreover, many who have explored foreign countries, for example have been subjected to racism and discrimination, thereby creating ugly memories to forget.
As I close, there is a debate about our attitude to new things. While it can be exhilarating to explore new things, I do not think it is wise to do so always. Repetitive leisure activities can be quite beneficial as well. Nonetheless, for personal growth, individuals should have a mix of both ways of life from time to time.
