Model Discussion and Opinion Essay on Children
Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Giving kids the leeway in deciding what they eat, wear or play with among others is believed to result in selfish individuals. However, others think otherwise believing that children deserve such right to making decisions. To me, I do not subscribe to giving children the autonomy in critical decision making.
Of course, children are human beings who are expected to have rights of their own, as they have their own friends, their interests and hobbies. So, some argue that they should be left alone to decide what clothes they wear or what food they eat. This premise is based on the belief that allowing kids to make such decisions will lead to independent, determined, decisive, bold and self-aware individuals on the long run.
However, in a society where values are quick to be degenerated, giving children such privilege at an early age in my opinion, could lead to a lawless society filled with untamed kids. Should children be allowed to wear what they like, indecent dressing habits may be picked up. Allowing them to make food choices, watch whatever shows they like and engage in any fun activity they want without control could make them undisciplined and uncultured. A classic example is the case of many European parents who struggle to discipline their wild kids because of the liberty they were afforded at a tender age. Moreover, they could engage in risky vices like gambling, prostitution and extreme activities that could harm their bodies or make them law offenders.
In conclusion, it is vital for parents, caregivers and teachers to regulate what their children and wards do, even if some level of freedom is given to them. If they are left alone to their whims and caprices, our society may be at serious risk!
