WHEN DO I USE CAPITAL LETTERS IN IELTS WRITING

In IELTS, there are several rules regarding how to use capital letters. Below are some of such rules:

  1. Use capital letters when you want to begin a sentence e.g. “In my opinion, there is a ………..”
  2. Use capital letters at the beginning of proper nouns e.g. Sunshine Lodge, Washington D.C., Alabama e.t.c.
  3. Use capital letters to begin titles of people e.g. President George Bush, Major General Johnson Birch e.t.c.
  4. Use capital letters for abbreviations g. “NNPC, DSTV, NIGCOMSAT” e.t.c.
  5. Use capital letter “I” to refer to yourself anywhere in a sentence. e.g. “I am so glad to inform you that I would be celebrating my 21st birthday next week.”
